Election is joint enterprise of AL and administration: AB Party

Wednesday, 03 January, Press Release:

Amar Bangladesh Party, AB Party, held a rally on Wednesday afternoon calling upon the citizens to boycott the election scheduled on 7th January 2024. The rally paraded through the streets of Shegun Bagicha, Kakrail and Bijoy Nogor area of the capital and distributed leaflets to the passersby along the way.

AFM Solaiman Chowdhury, Convenor of the AB Party and a retired bureaucrat, said that tens of thousands of opposition activists have been detained on trumped up charges, millions are in hiding for years. Nation would never accept this non-participatory election.

Mojibur Rahman Monju. Member Secretary of the AB Party, said that the ruling party had messed up everything leading to this one-sided election. Attempting to make the election competitive, they made it even more complicated and prone to conflict within themselves. This looks like a joint circus of the ruling party, EC, administration and law enforcement agencies, nothing to do with the voters. Voters already rejected this election.

Asaduzzaman Fuaad, a barrister-at-law and Joint Member Secretary of the AB Party, said that 7th January has nationally been celebrated as ‘Felany Day’ remembering the teenage girl who had been shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force in 2011 and left her lifeless body hanging on the barbed wire for hours before handing the dead body back to BGB. Scheduling the election on 07th January signifies killing our democracy and electoral process all together. It goes against everything an independent country stands for. Anyone taking part in this election, or helping this authoritarian government to continue to remain in power would be treated as enemies of the nation in months and years to come.
